A couple bought a $40.2 million mansion in London, but later discovered a large moth infestation.
A couple who bought a London mansion for £32.5 million ($40.2 million) have been told by a court they can return the house and get most of their money back after discovering a large moth infestation.
At one point, Hunyak said he killed 10 to 35 moths every day. The couple and their cleaners were also dealing with the infestation.
Before they sold the house to the couple in May 2019, William Woodward-Fisher, a real estate developer, had noticed moths in the house after new insulation was put in during some renovations. His wife contacted exterminators, but the problem was never fully fixed.
Woodward-Fisher’s wife had sent some emails about the moth issue to her husband, but the court ruled that Woodward-Fisher was not intentionally trying to hide the problem. He just wanted to sell the house and move on.
The court decided that Patarkatsishvili and Hunyak should get most of their money back, minus the time they lived in the house. The court also awarded them “substantial damages” and all the costs they spent trying to get rid of the moths.
